The American Association of Medical Dosimetrists is extremely proud to present the 2022 Outstanding Achievement Award to Dr. Scott Collins. Scott earned his Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management in 1993, Master of Science in Workforce Education and Development in 2001, and Doctorate in Workforce Education and Development in 2011. He received his Medical Dosimetry certification in 1997. He also holds certifications in Radiation Therapy and Radiologic Technology. He has worked at Southern Illinois University for over 20 years. He developed and started the medical dosimetry program there in 2005. Currently, he is the Director of the School of Health Sciences and Program Director of Medical Dosimetry and Radiation Therapy at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois.
In his role, he has educated numerous medical dosimetry and radiation therapy students and participated in the education of students in the Master of Science program in Radiologic Sciences. He has also directed, organized, and hosted many medical dosimetry review courses preparing students and medical dosimetrists for the board exam.
Scott has been an active member and volunteer for the AAMD for almost 25 years. In his role as an active member of the Formal Education Committee, he has reviewed many Medical Dosimetry journal article submissions and poster submissions for the Annual Meeting. He has also participated in the Scope of Practice Task Group.
Scott has served as a JRCERT site visitor for 12 years where he was a team member or chair for radiation therapy and medical dosimetry program accreditation site visits. Starting in August 2001, Scott also served on the Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board’s Board of Directors for 5 years, during which time he held the offices of Secretary/Treasurer, President Elect, President, and Past President, along with being a member/chair of multiple MDCB committees during his 5-year term.
Scott continues to disseminate his knowledge throughout our profession. He assures that dosimetrists are represented in other professional societies that may influence our professional status. He has numerous lectures, presentations, and publications along with a variety of research awards. His expertise, in addition to medical dosimetry, includes topics such as management and workforce issues related to our profession, and distance learning development and applications to medical dosimetry. The field of medical dosimetry has been strengthened by his positive work, dedication, and vision, and he is a very big reason why we are able to enjoy the professional community that we have today.
