Letters from AAMD President
Dear Medical Dosimetrist,
Since there have been major changes in the ranks of Congress, I am writing today to ask you again to conduct a letter writing campaign in support of the CARE bill. The title of the bill has been changed to "Consistency, Accuracy, Responsibility and Excellence (CARE) in Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy". The AAMD continues to participate in the Alliance for Quality Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (AQMIRT). As you know, our main focus with this group has been to represent you and promote the profession in proposed regulations which will support the bill once it becomes law. This important patient safety bill passed the Senate in the last session and ran out of time for a vote in the House of Representatives. Unlike last year, the bills introduced into the Senate and the House of Representative are identical and when passed will go directly to the President without the need of collaborative rewording. The House version of the bill is H.R. 583 and as of March 30, 2007 there are 49 cosponsors. The Senate version of the bill is S.1042 and was introduced by Senators Enzi and Kennedy on March 29, 2007.
The AAMD Board of Directors and Government Relations Committee are again asking you to support this very important piece of legislation by emailing your congressional representatives and senators to support these bills. This is especially important if your particular Representative or Senator is new to Congress. Due to extra security, snail mail can take up to three weeks to be delivered. Sample letters are available for you to use and can be found on the AAMD website; feel free to modify each as you would like.
