Credentialing for Excellence

Medical dosimetrists who meet the experiential and educational requirements have the opportunity to become certified medical dosimetrists by sitting for the Medical Dosimetrists Certification Board (MDCB) examination. The MDCB has developed and maintains an ethical framework and formal mechanism for medical dosimetrists to gain certification and demonstrate continuing competency through on-going collaboration with representatives from several related radiation oncology disciplines.

Medical dosimetrists who achieve the CMD credential are required to demonstrate continuing competence by earning 50 MDCB approved CE credits for each 5-year period that the Certified Medical Dosimetry credential is maintained.

There are currently three routes to eligibility. Formal medical dosimetry programs are offered around the country. For a list of approved JRCERT Medical Dosimetry programs, visit www.jrcert.org.

The 2010 certification examination will be administered on Sunday, June 13th in various locations across the United States and Canada. Past international locations have included Hong Kong and Seoul, South Korea. The application deadlines and routes to eligibility are as follows:

Application Deadlines:
U.S & Canadian Early: February 1, 2010
International: February 1st, 2010
U.S & Canadian: March 1st, 2010 (late fee imposed)

All Eligibility Requirements (education, clinical experience, CE, etc) must be completed before:

Three Attempt Rule
Starting in 2006, all exam candidates will be subject to a 3 attempt rule in which a candidate who has failed the exam on the third attempt will not be eligible for examination for two calendar years. After the two year waiting period the candidate may submit an application for examination. A minimum of 12 continuing education hours (MDCB approved) is required under this rule in order to submit an application for re-examination after three failed attempts.

Note: If a candidate misses the exam (i.e. no-show) it will NOT be a strike counted against him/her under the three attempt rule.
